Sr. Mary Yvonne Jenn Educational Trust Fund
Sr. Mary Yvonne Jenn was a distinguished CRNA educator and past program director of the Franciscan Skemp School of Nurse Anesthesia in LaCrosse, WI. She educated many of the fine CRNAs that continue to practice, or have in turn educated other CRNAs, in this state and nationally. In grateful recognition of her remarkable service to our profession, around the time of her retirement in 1981, her family and friends established an irrevocable trust fund to administer the fund’s donated assets and make decisions on the awarding of scholarship grants. Students are selected with regard to financial need and based upon their clinical and academic qualities. They must be studying at a Wisconsin school of nurse anesthesia—which presently limits the award disbursement to students at Franciscan Skemp School of Nurse Anesthesia.
The trust document identifies 7 trustees for the ongoing management of the fund, including one permanent trustee who is an alumnus of the Franciscan Skemp School of Nurse Anesthesia and named by the other Trustees (currently Judy Hanley of LaCrosse), the 5 region directors of WIANA and its treasurer. Although the trustees are composed of members of WIANA and some of its board members, it is a separate legal entity, governed by the specifications in the irrevocable trust. The assets of this fund are not the assets of the Association.
Annually, prior to the WIANA Fall Educational Meeting, applications from students are accepted by WIANA’s secretary and are forwarded to the Education Committee for review. A recommendation is made to the Trustees for disbursement of a scholarship to individual(s). There is no guarantee that a scholarship must be awarded each year or that the award be limited to a single person. The decision governing any disbursement are solely the responsibility of the Trustees. The WIANA Treasurer manages the fund and submits its accounting records to an annual audit.
WIANA, traditionally, honors the death of departed CRNA members with the donation of $100 to this scholarship fund. Additional donations by individuals or corporations are tax deductible and are always welcome. Checks may be sent to the WIANA Treasurer, made payable to Sr. Mary Yvonne Jenn Educational Trust Fund.
Students desiring consideration for the scholarship disbursement granted through this Trust should download the form posted on this website, complete it and mail it and accompanying materials to the WIANA Secretary no later than 4 weeks prior to the WIANA Fall Educational Meeting.
